Privacy policy
Last updated 12 October 2026. This covers the seodata.dev website, the HTTP API and the MCP server at mcp.seodata.dev.
The short version
We collect as little as we can to run the service: your email address if you create an account, counters to enforce the free limits, and basic usage analytics for signed-in accounts. We don't sell data, show ads or share your searches with anyone beyond the processors listed below.
What we collect
- Without an account. Your IP address is used as a daily counter key to apply the anonymous limit of 20 lookups a day. It isn't tied to anything else about you.
- Account. Your email address, your API key (we keep a hash for lookups and the key itself so we can show it to you again), your plan, and when the account was created. Sign-in codes are stored until they expire or are used.
- Usage. For signed-in accounts we count lookups per day and per month to apply your plan's limits, and record API and MCP calls (endpoint, status, response time, and the keyword and country you looked up) in our analytics so we can see how the service is used and fix problems.
- Keyword data. Keywords you look up, with their volumes, are stored in our keyword database and may appear on public keyword pages on this site. That data isn't linked to you on those pages. Don't send personal information as a keyword.
- Website analytics. On the website, PostHog records page views and a few product events. It only loads once you interact with the page, and doesn't create a profile for anonymous visitors.
- Payments. If you subscribe, Polar handles checkout as merchant of record. We receive your email and subscription status, never your card details.
MCP connections
When you connect an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT, it sends us only the tool calls it makes: the keywords and countries to look up. If you sign in through OAuth, the assistant gets an access token tied to your account; we store the token grant so it can refresh, and you can end it by removing the connector or asking us to revoke it. We don't receive your conversations.
Who processes data for us
- Cloudflare: hosting, database, bot protection (Turnstile) and request logs.
- Loops: sends sign-in codes and, if you joined a waitlist, product emails.
- PostHog (EU region): product analytics.
- Polar: payments and subscriptions.
Cookies
The site stores your light or dark mode choice in your browser. PostHog sets its own cookie once it loads. Nothing else on the site or the MCP server sets a cookie.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept while your account exists. Anonymous rate-limit counters expire after a day; a daily per-IP count of new keyword lookups, used to protect the service from abuse, is kept in our database with no other data attached. When you delete your account we remove your email, key and token grants; aggregate counts and keyword data stay.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of your account at any time by emailing hello@seodata.dev from the address on the account. If you're in the EU or UK you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and, for material changes, email account holders.
